Acorn

Acorn

3-years-old, female

Crossbreed

My name is Acorn and I am a crossbreed and I am here waiting for a new home. There is no history known about me but I am a very nervous, especially of men so my humans here think that I would be best suited in a home with no children as an only dog and no cats please. Whilst I will learn to love my new dad in the home initially my confidence will from my mum so I would prefer her to be the one to take most of the responsibility to look after me. I really want to learn to trust and it’s important for me that I have regular positive enrichment through new experiences but this will need to be done slowly and at my pace as I do find new things very scary. I am more than likely housetrained, could probably be left for short periods with no issues but as I can get anxious I would like a home where I am not left for long periods of time. Once I trust a human I am very affectionate towards them, love my cuddles and will be more than happy to curl up and relax. Due to my nervousness, I will need to be exercised on the lead and have a nice secure garden so I can potter about and have a play and run around. All the humans that meet have seen past my nervousness and can see an affectionate, caring dog that just needs a loving home with patient humans to call my own.

River

River

5-months-old, male

German Shepherd

My name is River, I am a German Shepherd and I am very special as I only have 3 legs, basically I am a Tripod Dog. Due to how special I am I need a very special family who are aware of my needs and will able to provide for me for the rest of my life. I have been doing some research and have listed below some crucial points if you want to consider adopting me. I need to remain at a good healthy weight, the most common health issue with three legged dogs is that I may develop arthritis earlier than other dogs. Because I am missing my front leg I will put more stress on the remaining joints and there will be more wear and tear, therefore it is important I remain slim so that I do not have to deal with additional joint stresses from excess weight. I would benefit from shorter more frequent walks and would also benefit from hydrotherapy at least once a week as I love water and this is a great way for me to exercise without the extra pressure on my other limbs. Whilst at the moment I am coping well on 3 legs my new family may also need to consider in the future a prosthetic leg or even a walking frame to assist me. As I cannot do as much physical exercise as other dogs playing games with me is really important to provide additional mental stimulation and I love to learn. Mental stimulation is very important to me and I love games that involve food but I have to be careful as I do have a very delicate tummy and I am chicken intolerant. I will need to keep my foot-pads clean and healthy, proper foot care is very important for a dog like me. I may develop cracked foot-pads because of the additional weight placed upon each paw. A cream rubbed into my footpads will help keep them protected and if you do this before bed I am less likely to try and lick it off. Also I will need to have my nails kept short and have the fur on the bottom of my feet trimmed to help me walk more comfortably and this will help me to not slip over. I would benefit from seeing the vet every 6 mths so they can monitor my progress and this will help to watch out for conditions such as Elbow Hygroma which is a fluid-filled swelling around a dogs elbow and usually happens in younger dogs like me who are constantly lying down or falling down on hard surfaces and also to monitor for early signs of arthritis as mentions above. I need a home where there are not lots of slippery surfaces. As a 3 legged dog, I have less balance and can easily slip on hard surfaces like wood and tile. This is especially true if I try to run or play. A simple rug or runner will help in this area and will not only help with slipping but will also act as a soft surface to rest on. In addition to the above, an easy access garden which is mainly flat with grassed areas will also help with moving around and playing. I need to be the only dog in the home and would prefer no other furries, I would also prefer to only live with children over 9 years old.

Lyra

Lyra

5-years-old, female

SBT

My name is Lyra and I am a small Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I have lots of energy and I am looking for an active home where I can enjoy long walks followed by sleeps in the sun or by a nice warm fire. I walk quite nicely on the lead but would benefit from further training in this area along with more training in basic commands. I am quite independent and am happy to go off sniffing and exploring but I do like my cuddles and fuss. I am ok around other dogs but I don’t really like them in my face and I can get over excited when I play and for this reason I would prefer to be the only dog in the home.

Leah

Leah

6-year-old, female

Collie

My name is Leah and I am a middle-aged collie. I am ok around other dogs but I don’t like them up close and personal, I prefer my own space so I am looking for a home with no other animals. I am very well trained and will sit and give my paw on command and I love to play ball and like to use my brain so I would like to be in a home with mental and physical stimulation. I am a very sweet and somewhat quiet and I love fuss and cuddles so I would like a home where my family are around most of the time to build my confidence up as I can be a little shy as well

Jack

Jack

2-years-old, male

Lurcher

My name is Jack and I am a Lurcher who is currently looking for a new home. There is no history known about me so my humans here think that we would be best suited with school-age children (9yrs+ depending on experience). I am not housetrained so my humans will need to spend time training me in this area, I don’t like being on my own so I would prefer my humans to be home most of the time and build up the time I am left for. When I meet other dogs I like them but I can get a little excited and can be a little bouncy and boisterous so I need to learn to be a gentlemen around them. Due to my lack of recall and the fact I am a sighthound I will need to be exercised on the lead and have a nice secure garden with a minimum of 6ft fences so I can potter about, have time to run around and play too. I don’t really have any training but I am young enough to learn so I would be happy for my humans to teach and train me with new commands and this will help with my mental enrichment as well.
